Rumanian Handicrafts on Stamps

Pottery

As everywhere, the pottery started in Romania from a practical necessity. In some parts of the country it developed in time to a gracious, colorful and sometimes quite sophisticated art. The mostly known pottery handicrafts are located in Oboga and Hurezu.

The stamps shown above and below were issued on Feb. 26, 1988, Sc. 3504-3509. The display works created by potters from Marginea, Oboga, Hurezu, Curtea de Arges, Bārsa and Vama.

Hopefully one day the Romanian Post will issue also a set dedicated to the producers of plates (dishes), another high specialty of Romanian potters.

Porcelain
