The
Watch Museum, unique in Romania, was inaugurated in 1963 in a room of
the Culture Palace in Pitesti. The museum exIsts thanks to professor
Nicolae Simache, who was the director of the History Museum between 1954 - 1971.
The
watch collection was moved later in a house built at the end of the 19th
century. This house belonged to the former Prefect (Governor) of the
Prahova district , Luca Elefterescu, a renown conservative politician
who was active at the beginning of first decade of the 20th
century.
The
museum introduces its visitors to the domain of the evolution of
means for the time measuring, from first sun watches to burning
watches, watches with water and with sand till the antiques and
modern ones.
The wonderful works are very often
not only masterpieces of renown horlogical masters, but also of artists,
who contributed to their attractive presentation and created schools and
styles.
